NASCAR Came to Ontario and the Drivers came to
K1 Speed
NASCAR Came to Ontario and the Drivers came to K1 Speed. With all
of the rain over the weekend most of the action was happening just
one mile West of California Speedway at K1 Speed Ontario. Today
is the day that the track record at K1 Speed Ontario will finally
be beat. The competition got fierce, and let's just say the drivers
were qualified. On Wednesday, before the races began, Denny Hamlin
and Kyle Busch from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Jason White
from the Craftsman Truck Series stopped by K1 Speed to get warmed
up for the weekend ahead.
It did not take long for the competition to heat up and the track
record to be challenged. In the first race Jason and Kyle both posted
respectable times for the first time on the track and Denny tied
the long standing record of 29.85 Seconds in his 10th lap. The next
couple of races allowed Denny to fine tune his line and Jason and
Kyle managed to improve their fastest lap times; Jason improved
by more than half a second posting a 30.34 and Kyle posted a 30.15.
The Next race Chad McCumbee from the Craftsman Truck Series decided
to get in on the action. This time Denny, Jason, Kyle, Chad and
Seven other lucky K1 Speed guests got the opportunity to race with
these great drivers during a record breaking event
almost.
Denny ended up just two hundredths of a second from tying his earlier
record. After racing for a couple of hours, most took off for dinner,
except for Jason White who stayed behind to try and beat Denny's
record of 29.85. On the very next race, voila! Jason posts a 29.84
beating the record by .01 seconds. With his goal accomplished he
signs his score sheet and leaves it at the front desk for Denny.
Denny returned energized and with his message from Scott I am sure
motivated was an appropriate term as well. It took all of one race
for Denny to maintain his dominance over the track at K1 Speed Ontario.
On his 5th lap Denny posted a very impressive 29.73 second lap time,
crushing the record and solidifying his bragging rights until the
next race rolls into Ontario.
Erik Darnell, from the Craftsman Truck Series, along with his pit
crew also stopped by over the weekend for a race. Even though Erik
did not beat Denny's time, he did win his race with a nice 30.03
second lap time.
K1 Speed would like to thank all the drivers that stopped by over
the weekend. All of them were happy to take pictures and sign autographs
for the race fans at K1 Speed. I would also like to thank Jeff Gordon
for meeting my staff at a local restaurant and signing the K1 Speed
Helmet. Each driver certainly represented themselves and their respective
sports well, both on the track and off.
