Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

K1 Speed in Ontario ran the latest installment of our standard direction, Super-track Challenge GP this past Sunday. Qualifying remained straight forward, as up and comer Tyler Pope held on for a second straight month to his first place throne, finishing in first after qualifying in with a time of: 54.29. Trailing Tyler by tenths of a second for the entire night was Jonathan Wright who placed second, after qualifying with a time of: 54.47. The heated competition came in the fight for that 3rd spot on the podium. Joon Maeng qualified in third with a time of 54.81, followed closely by Matt Shane and John Perry. Matt lost position early, and John and Joon battled fiercely for that 3rd place trophy, but a clutch move by John Perry during the 5th lap landed him in the 3rd place spot, and he held on to finish out the top 3.

Congratulations to our top 3 finishers and to all of our competitors for a great event!

K1 Speed Ontario Challenge GP Round 1

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

K1 Speed Ontario kicked off the second half of its Challenge GP series for 2010 last Sunday with an all new Super-Track layout that created new challenges for drivers as they took on the technical layout. Everyone also starts fresh with 0 points at the start of this race so this is going to get interesting. Qualifying would run pretty straight forward with 15 year old Tyler Pope taking the overall pole and setting the track record with a 54.01 second lap time. Ronald Nault qualified second and he was followed by Matt Shane in third.

The main would start with Tyler bringing the group around on a rolling start for the green flag, and they would all freight train into turn one together. The group would come out unscathed and follow each-other around for a couple of laps with Tyler eventually pulling away from the group and he would go wire to wire unchallenged by the other drivers to take the win. Ronald battled back and forth with Matt for second and third till mid race when Matt came out of a corner a bit too hot, and had to work to collect the kart and keep it from coming around on him, and all e could do was watch as Ronald pulled away. Ronald would hold onto second place on the podium and Matt would stay in third to round out the top three finishers.

This was a great start to the season and its only the start – don’t miss out on round II next month on August 15th. Come in and race in the best indoor kart racing facility in the Inland Empire.

K1 Speed Ontario – Visit from the US World Cup Soccer Team Captain.

Friday, July 9th, 2010

K1 Speed Ontario was visited by US Soccer Team Captain Carlos Bocanegra, and friends on a recent trip back home to where he grew up in Rancho Cucamonga. His professional career began after playing college soccer at the University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA), Bocanegra signed a Project-40 contract with Major League Soccer (MLS) and was drafted by the Chicago Fire with the fourth overall pick in the 2000 MLS Super Draft. He spent most of the year with the Fire, playing only two games on loan with Project 40. He won the MLS Rookie of the Year Award for a team that made it to the MLS Championship match and won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He became one of the top defenders in MLS, becoming the first player to win the MLS Defender of the Year Award twice, in 2002 and 2003. Bocanegra scored five goals and had eight assists in his four years in MLS.

Bocanegra was signed by Fulham in January 2004. With Fulham, Bocanegra played primarily as a centre back, but also as a left back and briefly as a holding midfielder. During the 2006-07 Premier League season, he was Fulham’s second leading scorer with five goals, behind fellow American Brian McBride. On September 1, 2007, Bocanegra captained Fulham for the first time in a Premier League match, a come from behind 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. On September 15, 2007, he made his 100th appearance in the Premier League, all for Fulham, against Wigan Athletic. He was released by Fulham on May 23, 2008.

Bocanegra was signed by Stade Rennais in June 2008. He received the number 3 shirt, which is his number for the United States. Bocanegra performed well in his first season in France, appearing in all 38 league matches. He scored his first league goal on March 8, 2009, in Stade Rennais’s 2-0 victory over Auxerre. He also scored a goal in a UEFA Cup match and started all the club’s Coupe deFrance matches. These include the final at the Stade deFrance on May 9, 2009, where he scored Stade Rennais’ first goal against Guingamp, in the 69th minute.

During his trip to K1 Speed, he and a number of friends competed against each other in a Mini Gran-Prix. During the 16 lap main event, he posted a 29.37 second lap time, posting the quickest overall single lap time. Carlos would finish in second place at the drop of the checkered flag on the new technical track layout. Carlos really got a kick out of our fast paced indoor electric karts, and really had a great expirence with us at K1 Speed.

Everyone at K1 would like to wish Carlos Bocanegra and the rest of the USA international soccer team good luck in the future.
