K1 Speed in Ontario, California was visited by AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike class competitor Josh Herrin, who was in town for the Superbike event at California Speedway last weekend with friends and other Sport Bike class competitors for a Grand-Prix style race. Josh took the pole position with a fast qualifying lap time of 26.07 seconds, showing his skills are just as good in karting as they are when he is racing the Yamaha YZF-R6 for Yamaha and Graves Motorsports. Keeping pace with Josh was Scott Russell, another AMA Daytona Sportbike competitor who qualified with a 26.34 second lap, and Ryan Rutowski rounded out the top three qualifiers with a 26.72 second lap.
On a green flag rolling start Josh would slowly pull away from the pack and take the top spot on the podium just as he did during his Sportbike race at California Speedway earlier in the day. Scott would make a push to the front early on in the race, but was unable to keep up with the fast pace from Herrin and ended up in second. Ryan battled it out back and forth with Jack Carborne who started in fourth, Jack would end up getting around Ryan with just 2 laps to go to take the final podium spot.
