K1 Speed Irvine – Challenge GP
K1 Speed Blog - go karts, karting and go-kart race events
K1 Speed held its third round of its Challenge GP race series this past Sunday, with a packed house of drivers on hand all vying for the top spot on the podium, this was a great event. Qualifying would keep on an even keel, as the lottery system was used for deciding what drivers would be in what kart. Drivers pulled a number from a hat and the corresponding number determined what starting position drivers had for the qualifying rounds. With the random draw system being used this put the drivers abilities to the test. Khalifa Alasiri would take the over all pole position with a 41.967 second single lap time on the Super-track configuration layout. The Super-track configuration only gives drivers 7 laps to lay down a good qualifying time so drivers were pushed further to take the karts to their limits.
A main race action would start the main events for the night, and once again Khalifa Alasiri would take the first place at the checkered flag with an unbeatable show stopping race. He drove away from the rest of the pack, with Toby Rodriguez running a good second behind him. Khalifa was unstoppable today so kudos to him. Young man Connor O’brein is a force to be reckon with, with an 3rd place finish. Watch out champs, a new kids in town. Familiar faces John Tanaka finished a respectable 6th place, and Kirk Meese got bumped into to the 10th position after a hard fought race to get up into the top 5.
The B main drivers closed out the night with a heart stopping event as Jon Simms and Steven Bordeaux finishing 1 and 2, after a good battle back and forth. It’s good to see Steven in the podium spot. Steven has been racing with us for some time now and looks like his patience is paying off on the Super-Track layout. A new face to the scene and a young driver Danny Molineda, would finish out in third. There was an intense battle with Brad Drew and Steven Jasinski hot on his bumper the entire race. Danny had no other choice but to defend his line. A nail biter till the end with Danny inching his past Brad Drew to take the 3rd place position. Great racing!!
This was a great night of racing for all, don’t miss out on round IV October 3rd!
