K1 Speed in Irvine, California hosted the 5th round of the Challenge GP Race Series this past Sunday to start the final rounds of racing between November and December to wrap up the 2011 Challenge GP Race Series. A number of talented drivers were on hand, all taking a shot at a pole position start for the A-Main. Robby Stanovich once again showed he was the man to beat as this young driver would put down a fast lap of 41.314 seconds to set the fields for the nights main events.
The B-Main drivers would be out on track first with Trevor Buongiorno putting on a show for the crowd holding the lead for the entire race and taking the top spot on the podium. William Cole who finished in second pressured Trevor for a lead change on a number of occasions but was unable to find his way around and had to settle for second. Jonathan Dimock improved over his last outing rounding out the top three with his respectable third place finish.
A-Main drivers would close out the nights racing action with young driver Robby Stanovich leading the field into turn one on the green flag with a number of drivers sitting right behind him looking to find their way around each-other. Stanovich in his usual form held clean lines throughout the race and would go wire-to-wire for the win. Edward Bergenholtz would have a great battle with KC Cook for second, with KC eventually finding a way around Bergenholtz to take the position away. KC would go on to take second and Edward would close out the top three on the podium.
With just one race to go in this Challenge GP Race series in the OC the top five drivers all sit in positions to challenge one another for an overall change int he championship points standings.
