K1 Speed in San Bernardino held the fourth round of its Challenge GP race series this past Sunday with a few new faces in attendance to mix things up a bit in the point chase for the season. Qualifying was a straight forward on the Super-Track configuration with Tyler Pope taking the pole position for the main with a 54.581 second lap time. He was followed by Matt Shane who ran a 55.365 second lap, and rounding out the top three qualifying positions was John Perry who was able to qualify within 5 tenths of a second from Matt running a 55.811 second lap time.
The single main event session of the night would be a full one, with Tyler bringing the pack around for the green flag rolling start. He would go wire to wire taking the checkered flag and posting fast lap times consistently enough to not worry about the other drivers making repeated efforts to catch him. Second place qualifier Matt Shane would fall back to third as he was passed by Nicholas Sima who made an early move on Matt to take second. Third place qualifier John Perry would fall back a position as well finishing out the night in fourth.
With round four in the books, the points chase is going to come down to the last couple of rounds giving an equal opportunity to the top 5 drivers in points contention to take the top overall spot at the end of the series in December. Don’t miss out on all the race action with the best indoor kart racing facility in the Inland Empire at K1 SPeed Ontario.
