K1 Speed in San Bernardino county held its fifth Challenge GP in its six race series this past Sunday. The drivers all had one goal in mind, out qualify the other and grab the bonus points to stay ahead of one another in the overall points chase.
After two rounds of qualifying, Tyler Pope was the man of the evening, taking the overall pole with a fast lap of 54.644 seconds on the Super Track configuration which combines both technical layouts at the Ontario facility creating a challenging, but fast course for the drivers to compete on.
The main event would start off clean with all drivers in a single file order for the green flag rolling start and it would be a seven lap battle for the drivers all chasing after Tyler to knock him from his position. Tyler was unstoppable as he would go wire to wire to take the main event win for the night. John Perry was sitting in second, followed by Nicholas Sima in third. With two laps to go Nicholas got his nose just to the inside of John as he tried to get underneath him entering a corner and John would end up with the short end of the deal and get spun around unintentionally. Nicholas would slip by John taking second for the night. Before John could get the kart collected and pointed in the right direction he was passed by Tyler Deal, to round out the top three finishers of the night.
The points battle is going to come down to the final race of the year with the top 5 drivers all remaining close in points to each other.
