K1 Speed in San Bernardino held round 1 of its Challenge GP race series this previous Sunday on its reverse ran Super Track layout in Ontario, California. With the points back to 0 everyone was working on qualifying for that pole position spot to grab the extra bonus points for their efforts. After 2 smooth rounds of qualifying Jonathan Wright would take the top starting position for the nights main event with a fast lap of 55.624 seconds.
Going into the main, the drivers would have a green flag rolling start with Jonathan having his work cut out for him with David Comstock and Tyler Pope sitting right on his back bumper in 2nd and 3rd. Tyler was definitely on a mission as he set his sights on getting around David and eventually Jonathan for the lead. Two laps into the main Tyler found his way around David and set up to get around Jonathan. Jonathan and Tyler would battle back and forth giving each other using over-under moves getting around one another with David putting himself in there and add to the fight for the lead. Tyler would end up coming out on top and started to pull away from Jonathan and go on to take the win. Jonathan would hold onto second with the hard charging David Comstock sticking to him to round out the top 3 at the drop of the checkered flag.
Round 1 went off great and with 2 other locations holding their first rounds of competition in the coming weeks it looks like 2011 is going to be a great year for indoor kart racing. Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in the best indoor karting competition with K1 Speed’s various locations.
