Round two of the K1 Speed Challenge GP race series for the Inland Empire location kicked this past Sunday to a number of drivers all chasing down the top spots on the podium for the overall championship. The CIRKL league was combined with this nights race to create some great battles for everyone in attendance. Qualifying would be a straight forward process with Robby Stanovich coming out on top, beating the track record and posting a fast lap of 50.808 seconds on the Ontario Super-Track course layout.
B-Main action would start off the nights main events with Emilio Garcia III on pole for the green flag rolling start. Emilio would pull away from the group early on, leaving the rest of the field to battle for position. Two laps into the race there was a small on track incident shifting drivers around a bit. The rest of the race was a clean run between all drivers with Emilio going on to take the win, Kirk Meese would finish out his night in second and John Perry would round out the top 3.
The A-Main drivers closed out the night with Robby Stanovich on pole, with new comer Bryce Raygor sticking to his back bumper. The rest of the field would stay relatively close to each-other until about mid way through when Gabriel Familathe ran out of room going into one of the chicanes which brought out the red flag. The race was re-started the field got moving again with Robby still maintaining his lead but the rest of the field was staying close behind. The checkered flag came out the Robby would go on to take the win with Bryce holding close in second. Tyler Pope would round out the top three followed closely by Darren Mercer and John Tanaka in 5th.
With the second round in the books for the San Bernardino location, drivers are looking to the next 4 races at K1 Speed in Ontario to see who will come out on top for the over all points champion. The Inland Empire location produces some extremely competitive drivers, all of which are very capable of visiting the podium sometime this year. Come out to round three schedule for September 11, 2011
