K1 Speed’s Inland Empire location closed out their Challenge GP race season this past Sunday to a packed house of fully capable drivers all looking for a podium appearance, and to grab as many championship points as possible to take the K1 Speed Ontario Challenge GP Title. It would be a battle between Robby Stanovich and Bryce Raygor for the top qualifying spot, Robby would edge out Bryce for the pole position in the A-Main with a 51.375 second lap time, with Bryce close behind with a 51.498 second lap time.
With the fields set the B-Main drivers would be out on track first, with Michael Huynh leading the field from the pole position into turn one on the green flag rolling start. Jason Coble made a move early in the race and put a size-able lead on the rest of the field. The rest of the field remained pretty tight to their positions and the field would finish out with Jason Coble taking the win, followed by Michael Huynh in second and Ron Aguilar would round out the field.
A-Main drivers would be out on track to close out the night and this was one race not to miss. Robby Stanovich brought the field around for the rolling start and timed his start just right to get a jump on the field when the green flag dropped. Second and third place qualifiers Bryce Raygor and Chris Singleton could only watch as Robby pulled away and they would have their own battle going for position themselves, while fending off the rest of the field which had a number of first time A-Main drivers. Chris found his way around Bryce after a number of laps to move into second but he was unable to catch up to Stanovich who had a 8.341 second gap over Chris. The checkered flag would come out with Robby Stanovich taking the win followed by Chris Singleton and Bryce Raygor would round out the top three in the main.
The overall points championship for the Inland Empire location would go to Robby Stanovich, with Bryce Raygor taking second overall, and Gabriel Familathe would round out the top three in the overall points championship.
This was a great finish to the 2011 race season for K1 Speed in Ontario, California, as the best of the best came out in force to participate in the top indoor kart racing facility in San Bernadino. There are just a couple of locations left in the So-Cal region to host their finals round of the Challenge GP race series – don’t miss all the action this coming Sunday December 18th in Los Angeles and San Diego.
