K1 Speed Ontario Challenge GP Results January 15th

K1 Speed in Ontario, California hosted the best indoor kart racers in the Inland Empire this past Sunday for round 1 of their Challenge GP race series to a large crowd of drivers all very capable of making a run for a podium finish. The revers ran Super-Track layout proved to be a challenge as the new direction put all drivers on a learning curve for the season first race. After double qualifying rounds, Travis Yates would take the pole position, with a fast lap of 52.359 seconds to set the fields for the nights main events.
B-Main drivers would be out on track first, which was a very competitive race with most drivers keeping pace within a couple of seconds of each-other for the entire race. The spectators had quite a show from this field with a number of clean passes going on between the drivers. Cameron Baker would be the one to take the checkered flag for the win followed by Erik Hurtado in second and Mike Buongiorno would round out the top three on the podium.
The night would close out with the A-Main drivers on track which was another exciting and close race for the drivers. Everyone qualified within the top 10 positions all were within 1 second of each other showing there was a lot of driving talent in the field. Travis Yates would make a run for the lead early on taking the green flag from the pole position, but made a mistake on lap for and gave up the position to Chris Singleton for the lead. Chris never looked back and took advantage of the open track to make a run for the checkered flag. Bryce Raygor also found his way around Travis moving into second and began to catch up to Chris towards the end. With the checkered flag out Chris Singleton would go on to take the win followed by Bryce Raygor sitting just 3 tenths off of Chris’s back bumper. Travis would onto to a respectable third place to round out the top three on the podium. Trevor Buongiorno and Patty Kuykendall would finish a very close fourth and fifth as well just behind Travis, making for the top 5 drivers all finishing within 1 second of each-other from 1st to 5th place.
With a great kick off to the 2012 race season the San Bernardio location is going to have a great 1st half, with a number of drivers all looking to make a run for the overall points championship and the amount of growing talent in attendance in the Inland Empire, K1 Speed in Ontario California is going to be the place to race this season.
