The Junior and Youth K1 Speed Challenge GP race series kicked off this week at a number of K1 Speed locations and the Inland Empire had a number of drivers on hand in the youth group to help start off their race season. Drivers were definitely excited to see the Junior league back in full swing this year and everyone showed their abilities to go after a podium finish. Qualifying was a single race format placing drivers in the main event according to their lap times. Kasey Gills would top the field with a fast lap of 33.028 to set up the main.
Drivers would line up for a Formula 1 standing start to finish out the night and Kasey would lead the field into turn one and the group would remain tight to turn three when 3rd place qualifier Devin Rees would spin and loose some ground to Kasey and 2nd place driver Tucker Turner who was sticking close to Kasey. Devin would regain some ground but it wouldn’t be enough to catch the front runners. Tucker would make a run from the front but unfortunately an aggressive move into a corner caused him to get sideways and Kasey would have a unchallenged run for the checkered flag. The Top three would finish out with Kasey Gills taking the win Tucker Turner was able to remain in second just edging out the charging Devin Rees who had caught up from a 20 second gap that he had from the spin he had at the beginning of the race.
This was a great start to the season and everyone had a great time. Come out to our next race on March 6th and come check out the San Bernardino’s ONLY Junior/Youth karting race series at K1 Speed in Ontario.
