K1 Speed in Phoenix Arizona hosted the second round of their Challenge GP race series this past Sunday, with a number of fast drivers all in the hunt for the overall points championship. The competition at the best indoor kart racing facility in the Southwest is some of the toughest in the league with drivers qualifying extremely close to each-other and posting very competitive lap times. Keaton Swane would post the fast lap of the night in qualifying to take the pole position for the start of the main with a 28.347 second lap time, just .041 off of the tracks single lap record.
After the double qualifying rounds the drivers would head out on track for the green flag rolling start with Keaton leading the field into turn one. The drivers would freight train with each-other for a couple of laps and eventually spread out a bit keeping pace with each-other pretty equally. Daryl Nance would fall of the pace a bit which dropped him back a few positions and he was unable to recover. The checkered flag came out and the top three would finish in the same positions they qualified in with Keaton Swane in first, Jay Kubota in second and Chaz Baca Jr rounding out the top three.
With the second round of racing completed and a long season of racing left for the second half of 2011 driver are looking at the top three drivers currently in the points standings and what they can do to catch them in the rankings. Come out for the next race scheduled for September 11, 2011 for round three at the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale K1 Speed area location.
