K1 Speed in Phoenix, Arizona held its inaugural Challenge GP race this past Sunday to kick off its 2011 race series. The relatively new etched concrete surfaced track layout, which a lot of drivers are still learning, is giving Southwestern indoor kart racing enthusiasts something to talk about. Double qualifying rounds were smooth and easy with area resident Cole Loftsgard taking the pole position.
The A-Main would remain relatively simple, Cole would take the green flag rolling start and he was followed by well known Challenge GP participant from the So-Cal region Khalifa Alasiri. Cole having the advantage of the quicker driving line was able to make a run for the checkered flag while Khalifia tried to remain on pace. When the checkered flag dropped Cole would take the win and Khalifia would settle for second.
Race two in this four race series will be next month on April 10th. Come out to our exciting and conveniently located Phoenix, Arizona location and challenge yourself in the newest indoor kart racing facility in the Southwest.
