The Southwest’s indoor kart racing action is happening at K1 Speed, in Phoenix Arizona with their final round of their 2011 Challenge GP race series wrapping up this past Sunday to a number of drivers that are all making a run at the overall championship points. Qualifying was a straight forward race with drivers making hard runs at finding a fast lap on the concrete course layout. Eric Kennel would take the pole position with a lap time of 28.109 seconds to set the field for the main.
With the final round of racing set to go Eric would lead the field for the green flag rolling start into turn one, but his lead would last long as Logan Swane would find his way to the inside of Eric coming out of the first corner to take the lead early in the race. Logan would take advantage of getting out into clean air early putting some distance between him and the field. Kennel would battle back and forth for 2nd and third position with former So-Cal Challenge GP competitor Krystal Wright, who at one point in the race had mad her way up into second before Eric found his way around her with just two laps to go. Mid-pack race action was a battle with Stenos Wijaya spinning out and dropping back to the back of the field mid way through the race but he was able to work his way back into 5th by the time the checkered flag came out. Keaton Swane found his way into fourth by the time the checkered flag came out. The field would finish with Logan Swane taking the win, with Eric Kennel in second, and Krystal Wright would round out the top three in the field.
The overall points championship would go to Keaton Swane with his fourth place finish earning him enough points to take the championship. His brother Logan Swane took second and John Madrigal rounded out the top three for the season in third. This was a great finish for the best indoor kart racing facility in the Southwest with K1 Speed in Phoenix, Arizona – keep an eye out for the 2012 schedule to be released within the next month!
