K1 Speed in Phoenix, Arizona hosted the first race of the 2012 Challenge GP race series bringing the best in indoor kart racing competition in the Southwest to the technical concrete race surface. The reverse ran layout for the first half of the season proved to be a challenging and fast layout as no one driver had more of an advantage than another. Double qualifying rounds would place Zach Sawyers in pole position, and set the pace for the field for the nights main event.

Zach would lead the field into turn one and have a battle on his hands with second place qualifier Jye Barton who would find his way around Zach on lap 5 and never look back. Jye would take advantage of an open race track and run away from the rest of the drivers and hold a comfortable lead. Zach would end up dropping back to 4th place falling of the pace a bit allowing Matt Campbell to move into second and Riley Sawyers to move into third. With the checkered flag showing on the track marshals main podium, Jye would go onto to take the win with a 6 second lead over second place finisher Matt Campbell. Riley Sawyers would round out the top three from the main in third.
