The Southwest is heating up with K1 Speed in Phoenix, Arizona kicking off the 2nd half of the 2011 Challenge GP race season this past Sunday to a packed house of new and familiar faces all looking to make a run at the points championship. Qualifying was a straight forward with Steve Lattanzi taking the pole position after double qualifying rounds on the unique concrete surfaced facility.
The main event hosted a large field of drivers that would take the green flag on a rolling start with Steve leading the field into turn one. The hard charging Logan Swayne, and Keaton Swayne who qualified in 2nd and 3rd followed closely behind. The rest of the field would fall behind and freight train with each-other for a couple of laps and eventually spread out mid way through the race. Keaton Swayne found his way around Logan and Steve to move into the lead, once he was out in clean air he would go on to take the win. Lattanzi would finish out in second, Logan unfortunately dropped back to 5th to finish out his night. John Madrigal would work his way up into third to round out the top three on the podium followed by Chris Wynne in fourth.
With the start of the second half of the 2011 race season in the books, the race for the overall points championship is in full swing and its any-ones ball game for who will come out on top. The European style indoor kart racing facility is the best of its kind in the Phoenix area. Come out to our next event August 14th for round II!
