K1 Speed in Torrance California hosted the fourth round of their Challenge GP race series this past Sunday with a good mix of new drivers to battle for a top spot on the podium with the returning points leaders. Robby Stanovich was the man to beat after the dust settled from the double qualifying rounds, posting a fast lap of 25.613 seconds to grab the pole position for the nights main event.
With the field set drivers were out on track to close out the night, Stanovich would lead the group into turn one and had a battle on his hands as KC Cook stayed right on him for the first part of the race. The rest of the field would settle in and stay in the respective qualifying positions for the duration of the race. Meanwhile Stanovich and Cook would battle it out for the lead, KC actually found a way to pass Stanovich and he would hang on for the win. Robby would settle for second and Jay Kubota would close out the top three on the podium in third.
With the season quickly coming to an end drivers are all still in the points chase for the overall champion for the second half of the season. With Stanovich on top he has to maintain his front running position in order to take the overall points championship. With the points chase getting close it will come down to the last couple of events before the champion will be determined.
