At the halfway point last Sunday for the K1 Speed in Los Angeles, California Challenge GP Race Series at the Torrance location, with its challenging etched concrete surfaced track which is being run in reverse for this race series, we’ve seen a good battle for the top positions on the podium. The drivers raced it out in double qualifying rounds for the top qualifier position and once again it was Matthew Widner that turned a fast lap of 26.945 second to land him on pole position for the A-Main.
Main events kicked off the night with the B-Main drivers taking to the track first for a relatively uneventful main event. Starting on pole for the green flag rolling start was Michael Arnold who would lead the field into turn one and remain out front on an open race track to go wire to wire and take the checkered flag for the win. He was followed by second place qualifier Korta-T Autrey, who finished in the same position he started, and John Perry would round out the top three on the podium.
Closing out the night were the A-Main drivers with all the race action happening in the first corner of the first lap as pole sitter Matthew Widner took the field into turn one and unfortunately spun out allowing second place qualifier Robby Stanovich to sneak by and run away from the field to take the win. Thankfully for Matthew he was able to recover quickly and hold second place to the checkered flag securing a position on the podium. Meanwhile, long time Challenge GP Participant Paul Ciralli made an appearance on the podium by finishing out his evening in third.
