K1 Speed in Torrance, California held round five of the Challenge GP Race Series this past Sunday, with a number of Los Angeles’ talented indoor kart racers on hand all making a run for the points championship. The nights action began in qualifying when many of the top drivers swapped positions for the best qualifying times as the laps wound down. Eventually Jay Kubota would edge out points leader Robby Stanovich, John Tanaka, and Jonathan Dimock to grab the pole for the nights A-Main feature.
The B-Main drivers would be out on track first to start off the nights final rounds with Ashley Cahill leading the field into turn one on the green-flag rolling start. The field would remain tight for the beginning of the race but would eventually thin out a bit, and drivers would stay in their respective qualifying positions. Once the checkered flag was out Ashley Cahill would take the win followed by Andre Davillae, and Jake Hardy would wound out the top three.
Closing out the night were the A-Main drivers with Jay Kubota on pole to lead the field into turn one and it was a sprint race for the next few turns. Jonathan Dimock made an early race move to move up from 5th to 4th passing John Tanaka. Robby Stanovich made a mid-race move around KC Cook to move up to second, bu by the next lap KC found an opening and got back around Robby. KC then caught up to pole setter Jay Kubota on the next lap who up to this point had gone unchallenged. KC found his way around on the last lap and would take the win away from Kubota who dropped to second, while Stanovich closed out the top three on the podium in third.
This was a great race and the points chase is going to come to the final race later this month, which we will be announcing the overall points champion for the K1 Los Angeles location. Come out December 18th and come watch the best in indoor kart racing competition in Southern California!
