K1 Speed in Los Angeles, California held round four of their Challenge GP Race series this past Sunday with a packed house full of drivers all chasing after the points championship and a shot at a podium finish. The unique concrete surfaced layout is always been known as a technical course layout, creating a challenging round of racing for all drivers in attendance. Double qualifying rounds on the reverse run track layout gave drivers plenty of opportunities to lay down a fast lap and grab the pole position for the nights A-Main. Tony Robles would take the top qualifier spot with a single lap time of 25.688 seconds to set the pace for fields for the nights main events.
C-main drivers would take the the track first for the green flag rolling start with a number of new faces making up the field. It would be a tight race right from the start, pole setter Tim Bryant would lead the field for the beginning laps but dropped back to third giving up the lead to Steve Branson, with Kenny Hicks moving up to second. The rest of the field would stay in their respective qualifying positions for the duration of the race, with a lot of clean driving done by all. With the checkered flag out on the flag stand Steve Branson would hold on for the win, Kenny Hicks would take second and Tim Bryant was able to round out the top three in third.
The B-Main race would be a bit more of a challenge, at the drop of the green it was an immediate drag race into turn one with drivers holding tight to each other causing a couple of people to get pin-balled in the middle of the field. Benjamin Morse would get the worst of it loosing the line in turn two at the half way mark and dropping back to the back of the field and left to play catch-up. The rest of the field would remain pretty tight to the checkered flag, with Nicholas Rebeil taking the win, Michale Arnold would take second and Paul Ciralli would cap off the top three in third.
Closing out the night the A-Main drivers would take to the track with over-all pole setter Tony Robles leading the field on the green flag rolling start into turn one. This would be another tight race as drivers were unable to find a way around each other forcing the field to spread out a bit. Kc Cook eventually found his way from fourth to third and that would be the only position change for the duration of the race. Tony Robles would end up going wire to wire to take the win with Tyler Bryant taking second and Kc Cook would close out the top three on the podium in third.
With just two races left in the K1 Speed Challenge GP Race Series for the Torrance location the points championship is starting to heat up, with a number of the top drivers all capable of moving up in the points chase depending on how they finish in the next two races. Come join us May 27th for round five and join in on the fun of the K1 Speed Challenge GP Race League.
