Los Angeles county has some of the best in indoor kart racing in Southern California and K1 Speed in Torrance, California played host to the top drivers this past Sunday with the second round of the Challenge GP Race Series. A large number of drivers on hand would make up the run groups and make for a challenging qualifying session with KC Cook taking top honors, grabbing the pole position for the A-Main with a 25.619 second single lap time. With the rest of the fields falling in just off of KC’s pace this would make for a tight set of run groups.
B-Main drivers would be out on track first with Jay Kubota getting out to an early lead over the rest of the field. That would leave second and third place to battle it out for a podium spot between Brandon Smith and Will Brown with the rest of the field close behind. Mid way through the race Danielle Taylor would spin and drop back a few positions but make her way back up through the field to finish out the night in sixth. The checkered flag would come out and Jay Kubota remained on top of the leader board for the win, followed by Brandon Smith who would take second and Will Brown would round out the top three in third.
The night would close out with the A-Main on track, with KC taking the green flag on the rolling-start style format from pole to lead the field into turn one. Henry Morse would be in a close second not making things easy for KC as he pressured him throughout the duration of the main. The rest of the field would line up in freight-train fashion after the first few turns and make for a run the front, and basically chasing after KC and Henry in first and second. Current Points leader Paul Ciralli would have a good battle with Tyler Bryant as they both put on a display of driving ability for the crowd on hand watching the action. With the checkered flag up on the main race marshals stand KC Cook would go on to take the win by just a kart length over second place finisher Henry Morse. Paul Ciralli would close out the top three finishing out his night in s respectable third place.
