K1 Speed in Los Angeles, California capped off the start of the 2012 Challenge GP Race Series this past Sunday to a large crowd of the top indoor kart racers from the L.A. area all looking to start off the new year with a race win. The concrete surfaced layout offers a unique challenge for drivers, in addition to the track layout being ran in reverse for the first half of the 2012 race series this would be a great race for everyone in attendance. Long time K1 Challenge GP competitor Paul Ciralli would grab the pole position after double qualifying rounds with a 25.671 lap time which would set the pace for the fields for the nights main events.
C-Main drivers would start off the final rounds for the evening with a number of new faces making up the field. Madison Higgins would lead the group for the green flag rolling start into turn one and never look back to go on for the win. Second place finished Jay Kubota would hold his position from Kaitlyn Rossi who kept good pace but would finish out the race in third to end her evening on the podium.
The B-main was a bit more of a rough race for competitors as it would take a bit of skill to hold your position. Nicholas Rebeil would hang onto the number one spot to take the win with the rest of the field in tow all battling it out for a podium finish. Benjamin Morse would grab second and David Comstock rounded out the top three on the podium in third respectfully.
Closing out the night was the A-Main with pole setter Paul Ciralli leading the field into turn one. Right from the start Paul would put some distance on the rest of the field and hang on to take the over all win for the night. That would leave Steve Wetterau in second, and Kc Cook in third who made a great run from the back of the back, he might have made up a couple of more spots if he had a bit more time.
With the first round of racing in the books, the race is on for the overall points championship with drivers all making a run for a podium finish. This 6 race once a month series is going to be the place to race in Los Angeles this year. Come out to our next race February 26th and see what the Challenge GP Race series is all about
