This past Sunday K1 Speed in Los Angeles hosted their sixth and final round of their Challenge GP race series to a number of talented indoor kart drivers making up a field of the top indoor racers in So-Cal in 2011. With Points leader Robby Stanovich on hand to lock in his spot in the overall championship, all he had to do was qualify in a front running position and get out into clean air early to secure his spot. Double qualifying rounds had drivers battling back and forth as lap times dropped over time on the highly technical course layout. Jay Kubota would be the man of the evening edging out the pole position with a fast lap of 25.762 seconds setting the field for the main.
With the field back on track for the main event, Jay would lead the group into the first corner for the green-flag rolling start style format. The top three would battle back and forth with Jay Kubota holding off Robby Stanovich and KC Cook to maintain his position. The top three drivers got settled in and maintained their spots for the duration of the race leaving the rest of the field to battle it out among them selves. With the checkered flag showing on the race stewarts podium, Jay Kubota would end the night with the win, followed by Robby Stanovich in second and KC Cook would close out the top three.
With Stanovich’s second place finish in the main, he would earn enough points to maintain his position in the overall points standings to go on and take the championship win for K1 Speed in Torrance, California. KC Cook would take second followed by Jay Kubota in third to round out the top three championship points finishers.
With the 2011 season finished up, drivers are looking to the start of 2012, which sits just 2 weeks away at various K1 Locations.
