K1 Speed in South Florida was visited by NFL Linebacker Jason Taylor this past week along with his family and friends of his son who were there to celebrate his sons birthday. Jason’s NFL career spanned from 1997 through 2010 where he spent a majority of his playing days with the Miami Dolphins before being picked up by the Washington Redskins in 2008, Jason was back with the Dolphins in 2009 and spent some time with the New York Jets in 2010. Jason currently holds the 6th all time career sacks record at 139.5 and is the all time leader in fumble return touchdowns. Taylor retired from football in 2011 and has been enjoying spending the time with his family and making his recent trip to K1 Speed in Hollywood, Florida.
We look forward to seeing Jason back again, and take a few fast laps around our challenging indoor tracks in our electric race karts.
On Monday November 21, 2011, K1 Speed Ontario had the honor of meeting Chris Brittle, Team Member from America’s Cup on Team Korea. Chris is one of the 5 members on Team Korea’s international sailboat racing squad. Pictured below is Chris Brittle along with General Manager of K1 Speed, Ryan Teague.
Chris did very well on the track and even posted one of the fastest lap times of the day! Good job Chris!
Twilight Saga star Peter Facinelli, made an appearance over the weekend at K1 Speed in Torrance California to make a fast lap or two at the best indoor kart racing facility in Los Angeles. Peter’s long standing career began in 1995 and he has had multiple roles throughout his career, most notably his current role as Dr. Carlisle Cullen which he began in 2008 and has been his longest standing role in his career.
Facinelli came out to our concrete surfaced facility and had a blast on the technical layout which features a unique set of corners and high speed sections which challenges drivers skills with each lap. After a few quick laps, Peter was able to find a good line and run some very respectable lap times that rivaled some of the regular customers of the Torrance based facility.
Everyone at K1 was happy to meet Peter and we look forward to seeing him in again sometime soon.
Popular UK artists Metronomy took a day off from their US tour and spent some time taking fast laps at K1 Speed’s Irvine facility in Orange County, California earlier this week. The band were nominated for the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize for Album of the Year with their newly titled album English Riviera, an award that exists to champion music in the UK, celebrating recorded music of all genres by British artists.
The band got a chance to try out both of our indoor track layouts, which gave them a chance to feel like they were back home with our European influenced racing karts. We look forward to seeing Metronomy again the next time they are in town!
Before starting their Northwest tour, the vocal band Wiffenpoofs made a quick trip to K1 Speed in Seattle, Washington for some fast laps on our indoor concrete surfaced race track. The 13 member band has been making statements across the US with their vocal talents as expirenced by some of our staff when the group sang happy birthday to one of the front counter staff members before heading out on track for some hot laps.
You can find the group from Monday, October 3 until Tuesday, October 18, sharing their harmonies with audiences across the Northwestern United States. Starting in Seattle, the group is excited to be performing in Merced, Reno, and Boise on their way to the Sun Valley Jazz Festival!
