The first qualifier allowed our racers to size up the competition and put on their race faces. Each driver got to check under the hood and kick the tires, so to speak, as they tested themselves on the Phoenix track.

The second qualifier of the night showed just how exciting the 2013 GP season is going to be. Race times drastically improved this time around as the adrenaline was pumping, especially with Cole who killed it with a very impressive 23.782!

The evening’s final did not disappoint by any means. Rudy and Juan spent the first half of this sixteen lap finale battling over every inch of track. Juan took control half-way through lap 9 when Rudy spun out trying to take the inside on a turn. Rudy’s focus and solid driving put him back in third by the end of the race however. David couldn’t seem to catch a break during the final after a very strong showing on the evening. Cole seemed to have the race in-hand until Robert’s determination put him bumper to bumper with Cole through the last three laps. Just half a kart decided the outcome as Robert finally got his chance to steal first place on the home stretch. However…Cole managed to hold on just enough to cross the finish line first. Exciting!! February should be interesting!!

The first Challenge GP of the New Year kicked off with Jayce Glenn setting the pace early in qualifying with a 16.5, but that would not hold for long as Theo Mechain and Garrett Foss would both put down some amazing laps late in their runs and steal the top two spots. The top 6 were all very close in times throughout qualifying. As the drivers rolled off it was Garrett Foss, Theo Mechain, Jayce Glenn, Hanz Malzar, Dana Glenn, Arun Bhatji, Patrick O’leary, Andrew Cordona, Taylor Casillas and Andrew Yacovone. As they took the green flag the order stayed the same for the first couple of laps, and then on lap 4 Dana Glenn moved past Malzar with a clean move through the chicane section on the back side of the track and moved up in to 4th and begin to pressure his younger brother. Newcomer Arun Bhatji, seemed to lay back for the first part of the race and let things settle down, began to find his groove and really started putting down some burners midway through the race and close the gap between himself and the front 5 drivers. Up front and in the lead, Garrett Foss was putting on quite the show and looking comfortable. He has always been wicked fast, and was finally out front in a main event showing what he can really do. Behind Foss, Theo Mechain was still holding down the 2nd spot looking strong and fast. Next up it was the Glenn Boys, locked in a battle of their own, the two would swap back and forth a couple of times during the race, Dana “The Dude” passed Jayce early on just a couple of laps after picking off Malzar and looked to be settling in to 3rd. Jayce would keep the pressure on Dana. Behind them, Bhatji was really going for it and put the fastest lap of the race down with a 16.42 as he began to pick up the lines of the GP regulars. He closed the gap on Malzar with 3 laps to go and made his move to take 5th and settled in for the remainder of the race. With just 2 laps to go it was Garrett Foss still with a comfortable gap to Theo Mechain who was now coming under fire from both of the Glenn Brothers who had been feeding off each other and pushing toward the front. Through the 2nd corner Theo went just a bit wider than normal and that allowed The Dude to pull up on his out side as the chicane juked back to the right. This however, proved to be an unfortunate for him as Theo would gather himself and hold the position to the inside of the next turn, and younger brother Jayce was able to goback by nside as well. At the finish it was all Garrett Foss taking his first win, followed by Theo Mechain, Jayce Glenn, Dana Glenn, Arun Bhatji , Hanz Malzar , Patrick O’leary, Taylor Casillas, Andrew Cordona and Andrew Yacovone.

The Challenge Grand Prix 2K13 has official begun and the first race of the season surely lived up to all the hype. This season the racing direction is counter clockwise, which is backwards compared to regular public racing and proves to be fun for beginners as well as test experienced drivers at their ability to adapt to a different layout. The top 12 racers surely battled it out on Sunday, never giving up an inch. The rolling start of this race was nothing short of a nail biter. All 12 karts were bumper to bumper coming into the first turn at speeds exceeding 40 mph! The remainder of the race was just as exciting; with all the non-stop action we’ve known and come to love from the Challenge Grand Prix series. In the end, it was Louis Pilloni who was victorious, earning himself 46 points in the first of the 6 race season. See you all next month!!

Our pole position racer for the B-Main event race also happened to be a brand new kart racer. His first time racing and Key Dougherty was already leading the B Main race. For most of the race the top 4 drivers battled it out intensely, fighting for a podium position. Paige Kaufman had a fire in her eye this race and was nipping at the leaders heels for nearly half the race. Although new to racing, Key Dougherty displayed impressive defensive driving abilities and managed to block Paige and her numerous pass attempts. Meanwhile; Jon Simms, one of our seasoned veteran drivers was determined to make his way to the front of the pack. Jon successfully made several great passes, working his way to 2nd position, but ran out of time to catch the leader. Finishing in 1st this race was first time K1 Speed racer, Key Dougherty. Congrats on the win! We hope to see you and all the other participants back next month!

The start of the 2013 season was full of anticipation and excitement as returning contenders and champion, Teddy Hoang, battle for the top spot.

It was great to see familiar faces at the first Challenge GP of the season. We look forward to see those racers return, as well as seeing more and more newcomers come out and try to see if they can beat the best of the best.

We’re excited to include K1 Speed San Francisco in this year’s Challenge GP season! We had a good turnout for the beginning of the 2013 season with 2012 Top 50 K1RS racer Rick Kane taking the first win. We had 12 racers ready for the new season, eager to make a name for themselves and put them in contention for the championship.

We had a good turnout for the beginning of the 2013 season on the reverse Supertrack here in Ontario. We had 13 racers ready for the new season, eager to make a name for themselves and put them in contention for the championship. It was a brand new challenge for everyone this season, since no one had ever driven the track in the reverse direction. Qualifying went very smooth with the new configuration, with Robert Hernandez taking the top spot with a lap of 48.099 seconds.

The A Main started off with Robert Hernandez ready to take charge of the race, with his first time on the pole position. Bryce was ready to get back to where he left off last season, with a victory in the last race. Bryce would put some early pressure on Robert as the first couple laps got under way, but Robert held a perfect line around the track in order to keep himself in the lead. There were also good battles mid pack, with Mike Marino trying his hardest to hold off hard charging Eric Ross. Eric would eventually prevail. After a few laps were in the books and Robert started to get into a rhythm, he would slowly start gapping Bryce every corner and would also set the fastest lap of the night with a 47.775 on the 5th lap of the race. Robert Hernandez took the checkered flag in first, with Bryce Raygor finishing second, Bob Hyman in third, Christopher Morales in fourth, and Eric Ross rounding out the top 5.

It was great to see so many first timers to the Challenge GP this month in Ontario and look forward to see those racers return, as well as seeing more and more newcomers come out and try to see if they can beat the best of the best.

The first GP of the new season picked up right where last season left off. Ignacio Martinez continued his unbeaten streak and looked as impressive as ever. He failed to grab the pole position in the quals but that did not stop him from capitalizing on a early mash up in the MAIN EVENT to blow away the field once again. Last season’s most improved racer, Dale Daugherty, ran a very fast and clean race which resulted in his best finish in a GP to date…2nd place. There was a battle for 3rd place between three different racers right up to the final lap. Adam Fujawa held on and took home the 3rd place hardware. The remainder of the season will be race in reverse direction. Is there anyone out there that can beat Ignacio Martinez?!?

The B FINAL was filled with new comers from top to bottom. That did not mean there was any shortage of quality racing. Dylan Lee bested a good field to take home 1st place. Ryan Keys ran a solid race to take home 2nd. On his very first visit to any K1 Speed, Timothy Bolding finished in 3rd place and made a statement for GP’s to come. Remember, it is a long season and this was only the first event of the season. We will see you the first Sunday of every month going forward!

Smaller than normal showing but didn’t mean there wasn’t a lot of excitement. Austin started off in 1st but after Turn #2 was passed by Craig. Into the 14th lap though Craig came into Turn #5 too fast and Austin took advantage and was gone from the rest of the pack. There were a few bumps and rubs between Puneet, Kenny, and Craig for 2nd place but Craig kept them behind him.

A Main was a very fun race with the amazing Russ McGrane leading the pack. Russ took the jump off the rolling start and pulled away from the rest of the pack. The real excitement was between Kevin and Michael fighting for that 2nd spot. Going around the teardrop on track 2, Kevin motored his way past Michael to claim that 2nd position. A lot of new faces to the 2013 GP Season.

B Main got off to a rocky start with two drivers spinning out on lap 3. Nick, Randy, and Tony after the restart were untouchable, pulling away from the entire pack taking the podium finishes. A lot of great talent here. We look forward to the upcoming events to see how their talents progressed.
