K1 Speed in Torrance California was visited by Jr Indy Car Driver Zach Veach this past week to shoot footage for an upcoming TV show highlighting his life balancing his racing career and is full childhood, just before heading out to Las Vegas for the SEMA Show.
Zach’s racing really started to show promise when he was 12 racing karts competing in national events around the Midwest. In just 19 months Veach had gone from go-karts to the cockpit of an open-wheel Formula BMW machine. Near the end of 2009, while testing a BMW, Veach continued to turn heads, when Atlantic’s team owner Eric Jensen, the 2009 Atlantic Championship Series “Team Owner of the Year”, took notice of his talents. Buckey is not just a pro skateboarder, he is an avid automotive enthusiast as well, as over the years he has tuned and modified many European cars to suit his own personality, along with raced in many celebrity race events including a recent Dodge Viper Cup race.
His skateboarding career began in 1987 where after entering many amateur events he was noticed by Powell Peralta talent scouts which got him into his first video in 1988 call Public Domain. Turning pro in 1990 vert skating began to take a downfall in popularity and his career waned. ESPN brought a new level of competition to professional action sports with the X-Games in the mid 90′s giving Buckey’s career a comeback along with many others.
Buckey’s career has been in overdrive winning multiple X-Games medals over the years – 6 of which are gold, and has scored the highest points in X-Games Skateboarding Vert History with a 98.50. He has also won multiple titles including The Vans Tripple Crown, Gravity Games titles. The Slam City Jam title, and he is currently in contention for another Dew Tour Title. Buckey also has one of the most unique backyard concrete bowls, that was completed with the backing of his sponsors and the design team from California Skateparks, which he holds his yearly Buckeys Backyard Bash where he opens up his home to the skating community and invites other professionals for an afternoon jam session. Buckey calls it “Heaven.”

Professional Surfer from the ASP World Tour Rob Machado along with family and friends, visited K1 Speed in Carlsbad California earlier this week. This was his first visit to K1 and he certainly enjoyed his time with us. Rob is known for his Zen-like flow both on land and in the water, Machado was consistently seeded at the top of the rankings as a competitor on the ASP World Tour. His world-title-deciding heat at Pipeline against close friend Kelly Slater in 1995 remains perhaps the most dramatic – and uplifting – showdowns in competitive surfing history. With 12 career WCT victories, Machado was ranked among the top ten surfers for eleven straight years and was inducted into the Surfers Hall of Fame in 2000 and re-inducted in 2006.
You can see from the smile Rob and his group have on their face they really enjoyed the North San Diego location, as they raced out high speed indoor electric karts and learning what it takes to post a fast lap time on our technical layout. We look forward to seeing Rob back in house and wish him luck on the 2011 ASP Pro Tour.
Keep up with Rob and everything he is doing on his official web-page
