About K1 Speed
Founded in 2003, K1 Speed America’s Premier Kart Racing company. With kart racing centers in California, Washington, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, Florida and several more facilities planned for the near future, K1 Speed brings the thrill and excitement of indoor karting to a large audience.
Indoor karting has grown into a large industry over the last several years, not only within California, but across the nation. K1 Speed was one of the first companies to bring electric karts and indoor go kart tracks to Southern California, and since the first location opened in Carlsbad in 2003, there has been an explosion in the market.
The premise behind the creation of K1 Speed was to offer enthusiasts and amateurs alike an authentic and genuine racing experience in a safe, comfortable, accessible and perhaps most importantly, unique environment. Utilizing advanced European electric karts and indoor asphalt tracks, K1 Speed quickly developed a reputation as being fun and exciting, and growth has been continuous since the doors were first opened. 2014 K1 Speed is celebrating 10 years of karting excitement.

(February 2, 2014) At 7:30am today, two Tesla Model S sedans rolled quietly to a stop outside New York’s City Hall to set a record speed time for an electric vehicle crossing the United States. The team had just driven the two cars across the U.S. while relying only on Superchargers for energy. Not only did the Cross Country Rally team manage the trip from Los Angeles to New York City in just 76 and a half hours, it also recorded the lowest charge time for an electric vehicle traveling across the country – a feat that is now being assessed for recognition as a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS achievement.
After three days of enduring blizzards, a blinding sand storm, freezing temperatures, and driving rain, the Cross Country Rally came to its conclusion on a surprisingly mild New York morning. The crew of 15 drivers, many of whom had seldom slept over the past few days, was treated to the sight of Manhattan’s skyscrapers slowly emerging through the fog as the two Model S sedans crossed the Brooklyn Bridge. The cars were driven over the finish line by Tesla staffers Sara Eslinger and Jalpa Patel. Tesla CTO JB Straubel was on board for the final leg from Newark, Delaware, to New York City, where the team was greeted by CEO Elon Musk after crossing the finish line.
Superchargers, which are free to use for Model S owners, are situated in more than 85 locations worldwide, with many more due to come online in the next couple of years. Aside from not costing users a cent, Superchargers are also faster than regular charging: they replenish half a charge in as little as 20 minutes. Father-daughter combination John and Jill Glenney were quick to claim the mantle of “first electric car drive across America using only Superchargers,” completing the cross country drive last week as Tesla energized the final stations along the route.
Throughout the journey, Tesla’s rally team was privileged to meet fans from around the country at Superchargers in Worthington, MN, Macedonia, OH, and Newark, DE, among others. These fans brought firm handshakes, warm smiles, hot coffee, and a fierce pride in their vehicles. The team reciprocated by handing out T-shirts and mingling with each crowd. The Tesla team was comprised of Tesla employees who were directly involved with the construction, operation, and deployment of the Superchargers – a rapidly expanding network that is a crucial part of the company’s mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation.

Nitro Circus founder, ringleader and world-class athlete Travis Pastrana will bring Nitro Circus Live (www.nitrocircuslive.com) – the action sports spectacle that has become a worldwide hit – to Honda Center for the first time on January 26, 2014. Nitro Circus Live showcases over 40 of the world’s best action sports athletes performing daring and often record-breaking tricks in freestyle motocross, BMX and skateboarding, along with heart-stopping stunts on unique contraptions rarely attempted outside of the Nitro Circus family. Featuring the stars of Nitro Circus’ hit MTV2 show and Nitro Circus 3D film, the tour is headed up by Pastrana, a 10-time X Games gold medalist in Freestyle Motocross who has also become a fixture on the NASCAR, Supercross and rally racing circuits.
“This tour is the biggest and most audacious action sports production ever staged,” says Pastrana. “This is truly an exciting, adrenaline-charged, live action sports show featuring an insane group of athletes who push each other to new extremes every single show.”
Originally a small DVD series filmed in Pastrana’s Maryland backyard, Nitro Circus grew into a successful MTV show with over 46 million U.S. viewers and broadcast in 60 countries worldwide. The next step was Nitro Circus Live, which has captured the imagination of fans worldwide with a string of sell-out shows and record-breaking crowds across Europe, Australia and New Zealand. “I’m so pumped we can finally bring this home for fans to enjoy,” says Pastrana.
Nitro Circus Live’s fully choreographed action sports spectacular combines big stunts and outrageous feats on an array of contraptions launched off Nitro Circus Live’s multi-million dollar set and famous 50-ft. Nitro Gigant-A-Ramp. “Fans can expect to see everything from kids’ trikes, snow skis, tandem bikes and razor scooters to shopping carts, a Barbie car and even a cooler launched with skill off the Gigant-A-Ramp,” says Pastrana. “The live show also features spectacular choreographed freestyle motocross riding, including the outrageous ‘Nitro Bomb’ with 20 riders back-flipping in the air at the same time.”
A few months ago we got our first look at the Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E teams will be racing next year, and just recently, that car hit a test track in France for the first time to see how it held up. Spark Racing president Frédéric Vasseur reported things went well, with the car turning about 40 laps over two days of testing at La Ferté Gaucher without taking a sip of fuel. The video after the break captures a few clips from the laps — running on a smaller 50kW battery, just 25 percent of the 270hp-equivalent power race-ready cars will have — and while we’ll need to adjust to the lack of noise, perhaps its impressive torque and handling can make up for it. More tests are planned before the first race in Beijing next September as the team pushes its mileage up bit by bit before running a full race simulation.
