Travis Pastrana was rudely sent out of the X Games last summer when Andy Scott shunted him from behind during a qualifying round for the RallyCross event. Until that moment, the world had been looking forward to a meeting between Travis and eight-time (and soon to be nine-time) World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb, whose Citroen WRC team had specially shipped a car from France.
Now in a new episode of the YouTube series, ‘On Pace With Pastrana,’ we get to see the X Games as Travis experienced it. In part one below, Travis meets his idol, Loeb, and the two go head-to-head in go-karts at K1 Speed Torrance. Afterward, Travis and wife Lyn-Z take in the Moto X Step-Up and Best Trick competitions. K1 Speed operates indoor go-kart tracks throughout the country, from the Southwest to Southern Florida and the Pacific Northwest.
The company’s newest facility is scheduled to open this week in San Francisco, the City by the Bay, and will be one of several in Northern California – the others being Santa Clara and Sacramento. Open to the public seven days a week and available for private rentals and parties, K1 Speed’s San Francisco center is a world-class entertainment venue that is designed not only to please motoring enthusiasts, but people of all ages and from all walks of life. Company co-owner Boris Said is a professional racecar driver with years of experience in all forms of motorsport, and his input allows the company to create an experience that will satisfy even the most ardent racing fan.
So what makes K1 Speed unique? Why choose K1 Speed for your go-karting adventures instead of the local amusement park or miniature golf course? Quite simply, K1 Speed has revolutionized go-kart racing in the United States through the introduction of two unique elements:
Indoor Go-kart Tracks – With indoor kart tracks, K1 Speed provides individuals with an opportunity to race every day of the year, regardless of, as the saying goes, rain, sleet, or snow. Residents of San Francisco know all too well that cold temperatures, heavy fog, and sudden rain showers can make planning outdoor events somewhat of a guessing game. By isolating racing activities indoors, K1 Speed can eliminate these variables and operate year-long. In places such as Seattle and Arizona, where temperature extremes on both ends are common, the reprieve provided by a fully enclosed space is welcomed by K1 Speed’s enthusiastic customer base. In San Francisco, the company is confident that the reception will be similar; an umbrella and several layers of clothing won’t be necessary items for a trip to the go-kart track anymore!
All-electric European Karts – Traditional go-kart venues rely on old, anemic, heavy, and cumbersome gas-powered karts. With frames that have seen years of abuse, bald tires, spot welds in several locations in an attempt to fix frame cracks, and motivation coming from underpowered lawn mower engines, these karts often fail to inspire both thrills and confidence. The karts at K1 Speed are several generations beyond these antiquated machines; they are designed in Europe – the heart of professional karting – and are powered by high-performance, zero-emission electric motors that produce 20hp. With instant torque available at all speeds, the karts at K1 Speed can reach speeds approaching 45mph. With that amount of speed on hand, however, the karts must be able to turn and stop properly as well. This is handled through racing slick tires, advanced chassis design, and a hydraulic brake on the rear axle. The karts at K1 Speed are the environmentally-friendly choice for high-speed thrills, and the company has built its success on their prowess.
If you feel the need for speed or are an adrenaline junky looking to satiate your need for excitement, indoor go-kart racing at K1 Speed San Francisco is for you. The company’s most popular race format is its Arrive & Drive races, which allow racers of all ages* to compete in 14-lap heats against the clock, any day of the week, any time of day. Simply show up, register, and queue up for your race! Helmets and training are provided.
For special events and parties, K1 Speed is happy to offer party packages, private room rentals, corporate packages, and even facility rentals. And for those looking to take on the sport of go-kart racing full-time, K1 Speed hosts the Challenge GP karting league, which attracts some of the best karters in the area; with your track and go-kart provided for you, there is no racing league in the country that’s more affordable!
*Please inquire about height requirements and other excluding factors.
