K1 Speed Carlsbad Challenge GP 6 2K13 – Season 1

We had a very exciting 6th and final race for Carlsbad’s 1st Challenge GP season. There were moves that were made in this race that stunted some driver’s final points totals and helped others climb ahead of the competition. Brandon Walsh qualified with the fastest time and was able to start and finish in the top spot because of this. The battle for 2nd and 3rd lasted the entire race between Charles, Benjamin and Paige following closely behind. In the first half of the heat KC was spun out sending him from 4th all the way back to 7th. He impressively was able to climb back up a couple spots and secure a 5th place finish. Although he came in 5th for this race, the points he accumulated gave him just the nudge he needed to win overall for season 1′s Challenge GP.

Last night’s event included all of our usual Jr. drivers and a couple of new faces. Landon Southwell was able to secure pole position with his qualifying laptime of 31.01. Although the rolling start started as one of the best we have seen, it was soon stunted by a spin out in the 2nd turn of lap 1. Unfortunately Brayden Stansel was affected most by this when his spin out sent him from 2nd place all the way to the back of the pack. During this confusion and while most drivers were attempting to stay out of the mix, Carlee Weber was able to take advantage of the situation by ducking and dodging her way from 8th place all the way up to the number 2 spot which she held for the remainder of the race. Landon was able to keep ahead of the rest of the pack for the entire race where he kept and help 1st place for this final event. The rest of the drivers moved up or sown about 1 place from where they started. After tonight’s race it will be an exciting finish to the season to see where everyone stands in points for our last event of this season.
