This was a close race but Juanpablo Villacis took the lead in the sixth lap passing Charles Abbott and went on to take the checkered flag. Congratulations Juanpablo!

Sasha Rigaud took the checkered flag and Tim Dobbs finished 2nd, while Gaston Fernandez finished third.

Miami Dolphins visit K1 Speed with Foster Kids

Instead of football helmets, more than 30 Miami Dolphins players donned racing helmets at K1 Speed Fort Lauderdale for an afternoon of go-kart racing with foster teenagers aging out of the program today.

All of the kids were chosen to participate by representatives of HANDY, Inc., the organization responsible for placing them in foster homes and providing a nurturing environment for those still waiting. This was a chance for these teenagers to zip around the track with some of their idols and have some fun at the same time.

“I saw this go up on the board last week about an opportunity to race go-karts with the kids and it immediately sparked my interest so I knew I was going to be here,” said quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who showed up with his wife, Lauren. “Some of these kids have tough decisions and just to be able to go out and have some fun, do something different and something that we can both enjoy but neither one of us is a professional at was a good time.”

Current Miami Dolphins such as Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore, Chas Alecxih, Chandler Burden, Dan Carpenter, Nolan Carroll, John Denney, Dannell Ellerbe, Brandon Fields, Nate Garner, Jonas Gray, Brian Hartline, John Jerry, Reshad Jones, Josh Kaddu, Jorvorskie Lane, Lamar Miller and Richard Marshall joined Jonathan Martin, Andrew McDonald, Koa Misi, Moore, Jared Odrick, Julian Posey, Mike Pouncey, Kheeston Randall, Josh Samuda, Derrick Shelby, Austin Spitler, Randy Starks, Tannehill, Marcus Thigpen, Olivier Vernon, Cameron Wake and Philip Wheeler on the track. Over half this week’s GP Challenge were new faces including Mike Buritica who finished 2nd. Charles Abbott was the top qualifier with an impressive 39.40 qualifying time and went on to lead all 7 laps to become this week’s champ.

We’re looking forward to next month’s GP!

Tim Dobbs dominated from the beginning but the battle for 2nd place was much closer. James Friar led the first four laps but at the end of lap five, Charles Abbott took the second position and held on.

Another great turnout and looking forward to the next GP in April!

A Main: The battle began early for second and third positions with Sasha Rigaud taking the second position from Charles Abbott at the end of the first lap. Pedro Lopez led the first six laps but lost the lead to Paul Lopez who took the checkered flag.

B Main: Edgar Moyano and Todd Stamm battled it out for first place but in the end it was Edgar taking the checkered flag.

Start of the new season in 2013 did not disappoint. This was an exciting race with TJ Samm and Sasha Rigaud battling it out for first and second. On the fourth lap Sasha passed TJ and held on to win the race.

We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces for next month’s GP.
