Irvine, CA May 2, 2012 – K1 Speed Austin – the first K1 Speed indoor karting center in the great state of Texas – is now open! With the launch of its Austin location, K1 Speed is introducing the thrills of all-electric indoor karting to a whole new group of enthusiasts. The fully air-conditioned track and lobby with over 60,000 sq. ft. features a professionally designed racetrack; high-performance, zero-emission electric karts capable of speeds approaching 45mph; authentic racing memorabilia, including signed helmets, race suits, racecars, and artwork; a snack bar stocked with beverages and other refreshments; and spacious lobbies with plasma televisions, club-like lighting, and leather couches. K1 Speed’s indoor karting centers are built to be world-class entertainment venues and K1 Speed Austin is no exception. And for those Texas race fans outside of Austin, K1 Speed Houston is currently under construction and is scheduled to be launched in June 2012!
K1 Speed has expanded rapidly over the last several years because of one simple premise – providing almost anyone with the chance to experience authentic, wheel-to-wheel racing action. The track is designed so that both kids and adults alike can race head-to-head in a controlled environment. The karts feature remote shutoff in the event on an on-track incident and the track is lined with energy-absorbing safety barriers to prevent injury. Though safety is our first priority, we also place an emphasis on fun. K1 Speed Austin features a large indoor kart track that allows individuals to wring out our electric karts. With instant torque and ample power available from the 20hp electric motors, incredible handling, and powerful brakes, navigating our karts around the various corners and straights of our ¼ mile track is an absolute thrill. In-between races, our competitors can enjoy a snack or refreshment at our Pit Cafe, relax on our leather couches while monitoring the lap times of their friends on the track, check out our collection of historical racecars, or unwind with a video game or air hockey match. Our high-performance karts can provide quite a workout for first time races, so competitors often find a break welcome!
So how does one race at K1 Speed Austin?
First-time racers to K1 Speed Austin can race anytime without a reservation, thanks to our popular Arrive & Drive program. Consisting of a 14-lap race against the clock, it demands consistency and skill for best results, and allows participants to measure their performance against our database of more than 1.5 million K1 Speed competitors. Individuals at K1 Speed Austin can not only see how they compare to the fastest lap of the week or month at their location, but can rate their overall Race Performance Measurement (K1RS) against the entire database of K1 Speed racers. This is made possible through a unique scoring system which tracks overall performance based on a number of factors, including total races driven and performance against other competitors. So that racers can track their progress during races, live telemetry is also offered, allowing individuals to keep track of their lap times while on track, and later analyze their performance against other competitors.
K1 Speed Austin also offers reservations for special events, birthday parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and team-building exercises. The facility has on-site meeting rooms featuring the entire amenities one would expect, including state-of-the-art audio/visual systems, projection screens, DVD players, televisions, and Wi-Fi Internet access. If you are looking to feed your group, there are a range of catering options that can also be selected from. For the ultimate experience, K1 Speed recommends that a race packages be combined with a room rental and catering.
Mindful of the impact that racing can have on the environment, K1 Speed takes active steps to minimize its carbon footprint, not least of which is its use of all-electric, zero-emitting go karts. Susan Graver, co-owner and marketing director for K1 Speed, states “Our company is constantly searching for new and innovative ways to implement a more energy efficient footprint while implementing ‘greener’ business practices.” Incorporating energy efficient lighting and more sustainable business practices helps eliminate waste and reduce costs.
K1 Speed Austin is conveniently located for residents of the Greater Austin area, including Round Rock and San Marcos metropolitan area.

Anyone familiar with contemporary motor racing, of nearly any kind, knows the name Boris Said. His shock of curly dark brown hair, signature goatee and his success in so many forms of motorsport have made him a household name in households where racing is spoken.
In his 25-year career as a race car driver, Said has competed in the United States, Europe and Australia in everything from off road races to stock cars, prototypes and sports sedans in sprint and endurance racing. Beginning in 1988 as the Sports Car Club of America’s Rookie of the Year, Said went on to win Showroom Stock GT at the Runoffs for three consecutive years. Those successes led him from the ranks of amateur to professional racing driver, and to this day, Said is the only American driver to have won the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring.
In addition to his successes in Europe, Said has competed in the SCCA Trans Am series, IMSA in which he won 15 races, including the 1997 and 1998 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and the 1998 12 Hours of Sebring. Said also began racing in the NASCAR series in 1997 with the then-titled Craftsman Truck Series. His experience in sports racing led other NASCAR teams to employ him as a driving coach to other Sprint Cup drivers when the tour visited road courses such as Infineon and Watkins Glen.
In addition to co-owning K1 Speed karting centers and running his BMW dealership in Murrieta, Calif., Said still maintains a racing schedule on three continents. Clearly, he isn’t slowing down.
