Hot Wheels™ IndyCar Jr GP Qualifying Rounds Wrap Up
The final qualifying round for the Hot Wheels™ IndyCar Junior Grand Prix powered by K1 Speed is over! Three talented junior racers filled the last finalist spots during the event held at K1 Speed Toronto in Canada last Friday, July 13.
Over 20 children registered to race for their chance at an all-expense paid trip to California. There were close races throughout the event with many position changes, but perhaps the biggest mover of the day was Ilia Kasalovic. Ilia fought his way from ninth to sixth during the final race and impressed many despite missing out on the podium.
Ultimately, nobody could touch Isaak Godana as he stormed on to claim first place while Gianluca Savaglio and Stefano Picerno finished as runner-ups and cemented their spot as a finalist. They’ll join the six finalists from our rounds in Indianapolis and Arlington later this year to compete for the championship title.
All three Toronto finalists will have their hometown hero Robert Wickens as a mentor when they get to the championship round on Thursday, September 13 at K1 Speed San Francisco. Wickens is the clear favorite for IndyCar’s Rookie of the Year honors this season, and for several years raced as a factory Mercedes-Benz driver in the German touring car championship, DTM.
After the championship round, the finalists from all three qualifying rounds will travel to Sonoma Raceway for the final IndyCar race of the season and what will be the final race at the venue before WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca replaces it next year.
We can’t wait to see all of our finalists go head-to-head come September! In the meantime, learn more about some of the finalists that’ll be hitting the track:
