Supercross Legend Jeremy McGrath Visits K1 Speed Carlsbad
13 October 2009
Accomplished off-road racer and 7-time Supercross National Champion Jeremy McGrath, along with a small army of people from the “Race Dezert” crew, paid a visit to our K1 Speed Carlsbad indoor karting center in San Diego, California this week for some indoor go kart racing! The crew opted to compete head-to-head in a Grand Prix race, and as one would expect with a group of dedicated motorsport enthusiasts, gave it their all during the final 16 lap race for position! The results of the hard-fought battle caught many of the spectators, and the competitors, by surprise as there were position changes taking place throughout the race.
Unfortunately, Jeremy McGrath experienced a race incident on the first lap with one of the other competitors and dropped towards the back of the field. Thanks to his extensive racing experience though, Jeremy was able to fight his way up towards the front in the remaining 15 laps, setting one of the fastest laps of the week in the process with a time of 26.40 seconds (that Jeremy was able to set this time in traffic illustrates how much of a natural he is when it comes to racing). Despite losing several places on the first lap and dropping towards the back of the pack, Jeremy demonstrated the skills and determination that he used to win 72 250cc main events in Supercross, and finished just off of the podium behind Austin Farner, Danny Gormican and Todd Tenbroek. Needless to say, Jeremy made a huge impression on everyone at our Carlsbad location and it was a thrill to see him in action!Everyone at K1 Speed would like to thank Jeremy McGrath and the “Race Dezert” crew for dropping by, and we look forward to seeing them again soon! We are proud of the fact that amongst our list of past racers, there are greats like Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana, the late Colin McRae, Boris Said, Ken Block, Ron Capps and Denny Hamlin. We believe that having such accomplished racers choose to compete at K1 is an indication that we have achieved our goal of creating a unique and thrilling racing atmosphere that both veterans and novices alike can enjoy. If you’re a Supercross fan or off-road racing fan who would like to experience authentic wheel-to-wheel racing in a safe and exciting atmosphere, join us at any one of our six indoor karting centers to try our high-performance electric karts first hand.
