K1 Speed Carlsbad Challenge GP Results For May

K1 Speed in North San Diego hosted round five of the Challenge GP Race series this past Sunday with a number of new faces on hand to mix it up with the veterans. Double qualifying rounds gave drivers multiple chances to past the quickest single lap time possible on the reverse ran track layout which the veteran drivers would have a close battle with each other making for some tight racing all around. Kyle Wicka would come out on top posting a 26.814 second lap time to grab the pole position for the nights A-Main feature.

The B-main would start off the nights racing with the drop of the green flag on the rolling start style format it would be a drag race into turn one with everyone coming out clean. The field would freight train around with a number of position changes made within the first few corners as the field would settle in. The top three would eventually pull away and have their own battle while the rest of the pack would swap positions back and forth through the middle of the pack. Once the drivers spread out a bit the laps would wind down with the top three at the start finish line going to Dustin Schechter for the win, followed by Tyler Johnson in second, and Kevin Spring would cap off the top three on the podium.

Closing out the night would be the A-Main field, who would take the green flag on the rolling start with pole setter Kyle Wicka leading the field into turn one. This would be a great battle as some of the middle of the pack qualifiers would make a jump at the start to gain position in the first few corners. Once the field settled in the group would spread out a bit and it became a battle of who could post the quickest lap time. Top qualifier Kyle Wicka would put some good distance on the rest of the field setting some very fast lap times on the revers ran track layout. With the checkered flag showing it would be Kyle Wicka taking the win, followed by new comer Andrew Lemons in second and Austin Barnes would round out the top three to end the night.

With just one race left in the first half of the 2012 race series the championship points standing will come down to the final race in June. This will be an event you won’t want to miss as the quickest and best drivers from So-Cal will be in attendance for the final match race before we switch the track layout! Come join us on June 17th and take on this impressive field of drivers.
