K1 Speed Carlsbad hosts Bike Night
K1 Speed in Carlsbad hosts its first monthly “Bike Night” in San Diego. The second Tuesday of every month motorcycle enthusiast’s are encouraged to join us for a Grand-Prix style race, which drivers will be participating in a 12 lap practice race, a 14 lap qualifier race, and a 16 lap main event. Sponsored in part by No Fear energy drinks and Cycle Sector sport bike shop, the top 3 drivers are awarded with trophies provided by K1 and other prizes during each meet. With multiple riders participating its a guaranteed good time, not to mention Oggie’s Pizza is available in our Deli along with other snacks and drinks.
The racing action was non stop as the qualifying round proved that motorcycle enthusiast’s can set fast laps as the quickest lap set kept changing throughout the race. John So would eventually come out with the pole position for the main with a 26.539 second single lap, followed by Diego Romo keeping pace with a 26.636 second lap. Joe Martinez landed himself the third starting position with a 26.994 second lap to cap off the top 3 racers.
The main event kept the fast pace going as John would pull away slightly on the gridded start. Diego was close behind with Joe working to hold off he rest of the group. Half-way through the race Joe spun out and collected a few other drivers allowing half the pack to pass him before he was able to get pointed back in the right direction. Diego remained in second and Eric Moore had caught up to third place just sneaking past Joe’s spun out kart. Diego and Eric would exchange places back and fourth and with just 5 laps left John caught lap traffic and got held up, spinning out coming out of the tear-drop corner allowing Eric and Diego to pass him on the outside. With just 2 laps to go, John was able to successfully catch up to Eric and Diego passing them coming onto the front straight, Eric put a nose in on Diego coming into turn one giving him just enough room to slip by on the inside following John into the well known “Schumacer” corner. John So would go on to take the top spot on the podium with Eric Moore in second, and Diego Romo taking third to round out the top 3.
If your interested in participating in our next Bike Night, come out June 8th and join in on the fun. Sign ups are between 6 and 7pm and racing will start around 715pm.
