Sprint Cup Pepsi 500 Drivers Race at K1 Speed Ontario!
12 October 2009
With the Sprint Cup Pepsi 500 NASCAR race taking place at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California this weekend, drivers had an opportunity to meet their fans and enjoy indoor karting at K1 Speed Ontario whilst taking breaks from practice, qualifying and the Sunday race. Our indoor karting center in Ontario – conveniently located for Inland Empire, San Bernardino and Riverside residents – is located in close proximity to the 2-mile track, and is a popular stop-off for drivers and teams anytime the track is holding an event. We were pleased to see that with the Sprint Cup NASCAR season winding down and teams vying for all of the points that they could this weekend, this still proved to be the case.
On Thursday, October 8th, K1 Speed Ontario had a visit from Matt Kenseth, driver of the #17 DeWalt car and winner of the 2009 Daytona 500! Local racer Kevin had the opportunity to compete against Matt head-to-head in our high-performance electric karts after winning a contest sponsored by Del Taco and the San Manuel Indian Casino, and was eager to put his skills to the test. With Matt Kenseth opting for kart #17, Kevin and Matt hit the track for a pitched battle! Despite Kevin’s best efforts though, Matt Kenseth was able to take home the win with a best lap time of 27.31 seconds around Track 1 of our indoor kart racing center. Perhaps not surprisingly, Matt was able to leave K1 that day with another notch on his “win” belt.
