Why We’re Better Than Family Fun Center Go Kart Racing

a family has fun at k1 speed, gives high fives after racing

4 Reasons Why K1 Speed Beats Any Family Fun Center

If you’re thinking of taking the kids to the local family fun center for a go kart racing experience, think again. K1 Speed is much better.  Here are 4 reasons why K1 Speed beats any family fun center:

1. Our Go Karts are Eco-Friendly and Faster

Family fun centers typically use gas-powered oversized go karts that are slow, clumsy, and horrible for people and the environment. K1 Speed uses all-electric go karts imported from Italy. These electric karts produce zero emissions so you can breathe easy and not reek of exhaust when you leave. Plus, they produce instant torque (power), have super nimble handling, and approach speeds of 45mph! No family fun center go karts can do all that.

2. We’re MUCH Safer than Family Fun Centers

It’s always a little sketchy when you’re participating in family fun center go kart racing. Most of the time it looks like the center is still stuck in the 80s or 90s as far as equipment, cleanliness, and safety. The karts have elements that can burn you or cut you, there’s no head protection whatsoever, and barriers are nothing more than old discarded tires. Plus, there’s no stopping an erratic racer on the course at a family fun center if they’re bumping into everyone.

At K1 Speed, all of our karts are modern and state-of-the-art, providing much safer protection in case of an impact. And you won’t find old tires as barriers here. Instead, we use Protex barriers that are the next generation of go kart racing safety. Every racer is provided with a Department of Transportation-approved helmet. Plus, we incorporate flags, signs, and can remotely control the speed of an offending go kart racer. If that racer is dangerous, the engine’s power is cut and they’re ejected. Safety is always our number one priority at every K1 Speed location.

Here’s why it’s safer to race go karts at K1 Speed.

3. Better Racing PLUS the Off-Track Fun You Love!

Not only is our racing better, but we offer the same off-track fun you enjoy at a family fun center. We have arcades featuring the latest prize-giving machines and video games. Plus pool tables, foosball, and air hockey for people who appreciate more old-school fun! And some locations feature even more fun!

At Addison, visitors can enjoy Cybersport – a combination of bumper cars and lacrosse! And at K1 Speed Irvine, you can enjoy VR Zone Portal: a cutting-edge virtual reality arcade that includes Mario Kart Arcade GP VR!

4. Our Tracks are Indoors

At a family fun center, the go kart track is usually outside in the elements. While that’s fun on a warm summer’s day, it also means no fun at all on rainy, snowy, sweltering, or otherwise miserable days. Not the case at K1 Speed. All of our tracks are indoors. So no matter what Mother Nature is bringing outside, it’s always a perfect day to race at our track.

These are just four of the many reasons why K1 Speed is better than your typical family fun center go kart racing experience. Indoor go kart racing is our passion and life’s work. Don’t go somewhere that treats it like an after-thought.

I’ve been to other indoor cart tracks and wasnt able to fit in the carts… what’s the biggest size person you have had race in your carts..

    • Staff Writer

Hey Matthew! We’ve had some pretty big guys from the NFL drive our karts, but typically 6’7″ and 300lbs is the maximum. The best way to find out is to just visit and ask to sit in a kart. Hope we see you soon!

    • K1 Speed Staff Writer

  • Nate Fuller

Does the Boston location have shifter karts?

    • Staff Writer

Hello Nate! Thanks for your interest in our shifter karts. Unfortunately at this time, we do not offer those kind of karts at K1 Speed Boston. Hope we’ll still see you soon at our track!

  • Christopher

Do you guys have karts that someone who is disabled (such as being in a wheelchair) would be able to drive?

    • Staff Writer

Hello Christopher! Great question. We do have hand-controlled karts at several of our centers. For those that do not, we can possibly get a set of controls sent over to create one. I’d check with your local track’s management and see what the situation is there. Thanks!
