Eleven-year-old and aptly named racer, Race Palumbo from Thousand Oaks, recently claimed the 2026 K1 Speed Junior World E-Karting Championship title, a victory defined as much by his resilience as his speed. During a post-race interview, Palumbo opened up about the rollercoaster of the World Final, particularly the heart-stopping moment when a grid malfunction forced a race restart just after he had secured an early jump into second place. The young driver admitted the unexpected reset severely tested his nerves, but he managed to mentally reset and maintain his composure, eventually executing a decisive inside pass on the chicane during lap seven to take the lead. Palumbo shared that he was shedding tears of joy during the entire final lap, culminating in an emotional celebration where he seemingly leaped straight from his kart into his parents’ arms.

Off the track, Palumbo brings a distinct flair to the sport, sporting a sharp green and white race suit, which reflects his family’s deep appreciation for aesthetics, rooted in his father’s career as an interior and exterior designer. The newly crowned champion fully embraced the podium experience, reveling in the traditional spray of sparkling apple cider alongside his fellow competitors. Looking ahead, Palumbo is already setting his sights on the next tier of motorsports, aiming to transition to outdoor karting with the ultimate goal of racing F4 by age 15 and eventually reaching Formula 1. Still proudly wearing his World Championship access wristband, Palumbo offered a mature piece of advice to aspiring racers: stay calm under pressure, believe in your abilities, and always push through the obstacles standing in the way of your goals.

Thirteen-year-old racer James Spann from Nashville captured the national spotlight by securing the 2026 K1 Speed Junior U.S. E-Karting Championship title. Spann followed his U.S. title with a runner-up finish at the world level. It was the second consecutive year competing at the U.S. championship for Spann, who was excited about the venue change from indoor to outdoor. “This year it was a lot more exciting than last year cause we were out with the big dogs,” said Spann in a post-event interview.

The young champion, who traveled to the California event with his aunt, draws his racing inspiration from watching NASCAR on Sundays and the superhuman driving abilities of the late great Kyle Busch, who we all remember dearly. Spann managed the intense pressure of the championship by simply keeping his head down, staying calm, and focusing on his racing line. Displaying a maturity beyond his years, Spann bypassed the typical teenager splurge and is planning to put the $4,000 winnings toward purchasing his first car. Further speaking to his maturity, Spann advised new racers to “spend time truly learning the track layout rather than expecting to win after just a few laps.” Now a competitor in Nashville’s Teen Challenge GP, Spann hopes to return to K1 Circuit for the next U.S. Championship, where he would indeed be racing with the big dogs.

Arnav Bhegade – $2,000

Thirteen-year-old Canadian Arnav Bhegade demonstrated incredible resilience at the 2026 K1 Speed Junior World E-Karting Championship, securing an impressive third-place finish to earn back-to-back podiums on the international stage. Bhegade is from the Toronto area and holds the track record at K1 Speed Toronto, and previously at St. Catharines and Ontario’s super track. Bhegade entered the competition as an established international record holder. During the Junior World Final, the young driver expertly navigated the field to reach third place and was setting the fastest laps on the track before suffering a sudden tire puncture. Forced to adapt instantly, Bhegade shifted his strategy to fierce defense after the restart, successfully holding off his competitors to maintain his spot on the podium and take home a $2,000 prize. Reflecting on the intense race, he emphasized the importance of staying calm under pressure and noted his immense relief at securing another top-three finish despite the unpredictable circumstances.

Bhegade is known for his intense dedication and self-critical drive, frequently analyzing his own GoPro footage to find ways to shave fractions of a second off his lap times. His passion for the sport is so profound that when given the choice to celebrate his championship at Universal Studios or Disney before flying home, Bhegade enthusiastically opted to return to K1 Circuit for more hot laps. His father, Sameer, helps him manage his high self-expectations and focus on the joy of racing. Already transitioning into the teen division and finding success in endurance races alongside his peers, Bhegade plans to reinvest his championship winnings to advance his racing career. In last year’s outdoor karting season, Bhegade podiumed in all 27 of his races and won an astounding 18 times.

For aspiring karters looking to follow in his footsteps, his advice is remarkably grounded: let go of the stress, put time into purposeful practice, and remember that when you truly enjoy racing, the results will naturally follow.
