K1 Speed Boston Installs Eco-Friendly Solar Roof

Since the creation of the company, K1 Speed has preferred eco-friendly options when it comes to our go-karting centers. This of course all started with our 100% electric go-karts when we opened our first location in Carlsbad 15 years ago. Introduced during a period when almost all karting centers featured gas-powered karts that spewed out visible noxious exhaust fumes, our zero-emission karts were literally a breath of fresh air for racers when they came to our establishment. At K1 Speed Boston, we’ve taken this love for being eco-friendly one step further with the installation of a state-of-the-art solar panel roof by Kearsarge Wilmington.

Kearsarge Wilmington, owned and operated by Boston-based Kearsarge Energy, outfitted our Wilmington roof as part of the Reading Municipal Light Department’s Solar Choice Program, a community-shared solar model. The project includes 6,151 solar panels that over 20 years will produce an estimated 45 million kWh of renewable energy, which will offset almost 34,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to:

  • Powering almost 4,000 homes
  • Taking over 7,000 passenger cars off the road
  • Switching over one million incandescent light bulbs to LEDs

If you care about the environment and wish to do some kart racing, K1 Speed should be your obvious destination of choice. While our competitors in town continue to burn fuel and produce more carbon dioxide emissions, we’ll continue to take the green road and only enhance the racing experience you’ve been searching for.
