The Very First K1 Speed! Open Since 2003
Adult and Junior Electric Karts
North County SD Local
Welcome to K1 Speed Carlsbad, the original K1 Speed location that launched it all in 2003! As the first center in what’s now a global karting phenomenon, our Carlsbad venue has delivered high-speed thrills and unforgettable memories to North County San Diego for over two decades. Free on-site parking is available right outside the facility.
The 350-person max-capacity center has one of the longest tracks of any K1 Speed location, with most lap times coming in around the 30-second range.
Track Layout
The original K1 Speed track has an impressive 16 turns! The best overtaking chances appear in Turn 1, Turn 9, and Turn 16. Capitalize on the wide run-off area in Turn 14, and maintain speed as you approach the final couple of turns to put down an impressive time.
Thrilling Electric Karting
At K1 Speed Carlsbad, our Arrive & Drive indoor go-kart races let you compete against the clock with up to 12 racers on the track. The goal? Set the fastest lap time and earn bragging rights. It’s a test of skill and consistency; one mistake can cost you the win.
Our all-electric go-karts deliver instant torque with 20hp motors, giving you lightning-fast acceleration from the start. Unlike gas karts that slow down in corners, our electric karts maintain speed and power through every turn. Here are some other benefits of electric karts versus gas karts.

Non-Stop Fun in the Arcade
After the race, keep the excitement going in our arcade, packed with games for all ages. The Carlsbad arcade has 25 games, featuring titles like FunZone Crane, Hoops FX, and Safe Cracker. Our arcade is the perfect spot to unwind, have fun, and make memories between races or after your session. It’s a key part of the full entertainment experience at K1 Speed Carlsbad, offering something for everyone in the family.
Recharge & Chill Out at the Paddock Lounge
Enjoy a menu filled with flavorful appetizers like quesadillas, loaded nachos, and warm giant pretzels. For something more substantial, savor our Italian stone-fired pizzas, juicy sliders, wings tossed in your favorite sauces, and a variety of other tasty options. Designed as a casual and welcoming space, the lounge is perfect for socializing, celebrating, or just relaxing with friends and family.

Karts are fun the steering is really stiff compared to gas carts. There is a coating on the track that makes the carts hop in the corners. Still decent fun.

K1 Speed is an indoor electric go-kart center where safety was strictly maintained, requiring helmets and seatbelts while following the staff's instructions. If a kart spun out, crashed, or stopped, the staff would use a remote controller to slow down all karts to prevent accidents. One race consists of 12 laps. With so many sharp turns, karts would slide outward or bump into the barriers.Overtaking the car ahead felt pretty difficult because the track was too narrow, posing a high risk of collisions. The race moved at a very fast pace. Rankings from 1st to 3rd place were determined—and awarded—based on each driver's fastest single lap time out of the 12, rather than overall position. It was a unique experience where I could really feel the thrill of speed. It was also great to relax with pizza and drinks in between, and enjoy playing the arcade games nearby.

Amazing karting experience and definitely the best K1 location in SoCal!The karts are all in great shape and feel very consistent from one to another. The track is technical, with some really nice left and right turns that make it fun and challenging. The staff is amazing! Everyone is positive, friendly, and professional. The guys cheer you on like they’re your old friends, which makes the whole experience even better.Definitely coming back!

Testimonials
Hello,
My family and I came into K1 on the morning of 1/1/16. Your offer to have us come in early so the whole family could enjoy a safe race with my son Garrett, made my year. Garrett suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident on 1/2/11, his best friend did not survive the accident. According to the statistics, Garrett should never of come out of his coma. But he did! Slowly but surely he recovers. Doing things we thought would never be possible, like driving a go kart. You and your staff’s generosity started our new year off right & created a positive vibe that fortunately carried us through the next day (which can be a very tough day for all of us). An extra thanks for treating Garrett with respect & consideration, like he and all people with disabilities deserve. Please share this heartfelt thank you to your supervisors and staff.
Forever thankful,
Krista L.
