Why Dads Love Racing on Father’s Day
If you’re wondering why Dads love to race at K1 Speed on Father’s Day, check out the video below! There’s tons of great ways Dads and their children bond when racing with us!
Dads love going to K1 Speed with their kids for some friendly intra-family competition. First, they’ll be able to drive our all-electric go-karts that can reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. Anybody can appreciate the rush that gives you when you’re just inches off the ground! Second, fathers love spending time with their family, and K1 Speed is the perfect spot for that! Anybody 4’10” or taller can race with Dad out on our track!
If a child is shorter than that height requirement, but at least 48”, they can race separately and root for dad when he’s racing! Whoever is faster can always give pointers too for a rewarding yet thrilling bonding experience.
Famous Racing Dads and their Equally Famous Kids
For a little inspiration, check out our top three father/child duos from the world of motorsport.
John, Courtney, Ashley, and Brittany Force
As far as successful racing offspring goes, few can match the success drag racer John Force has achieved with his daughters Brittany, Courtney, and Ashley. John is one of the most successful drag racers of all time, with 149 wins, 16 championships, and 20 championships as a team owner. Daughter Brittany won the Top Fuel championship in 2017 (first woman to do so since Shirley Muldowney), Courtney has the most Funny Car wins for a female driver in NHRA history, and Ashley became the first woman to win a Funny Car race in 2008.
Graham & Damon Hill
When Damon Hill won the F1 World Championship in 1996, he became the first driver to win a F1 championship like their father. Graham Hill won the championship twice, in ’62 and ’68. However, Damon has more F1 wins to his name, with 22 wins to Graham’s 14 (though, in all fairness, there were substantially less races in a season during Graham’s era, so less opportunity to win more). The Hills remained the only parent/child F1 champions until Nico Rosberg joined father Keke as a champion, 20 years after Damon’s accomplishment.
Dale Earnhardt, Sr. & Jr.
While maybe not the most successful father-son duo in NASCAR (that honor would have to go to Lee and Richard Petty), the Earnhardts definitely have to be the most popular father-son duo in recent series history. Senior won the cup championship a record-tying seven times (tied with Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson), and scored a whopping 76 Cup victories before fate intervened. Junior never did win the Cup title, but he did claim an impressive 26 Cup wins during his career.

Shaun Kellogg
This has been one of those things my son and I have been doing since he was 5, he’s going on 11 now and it’s helped grow our relationship. It’s also helped my son become an amazing cart racer, hopefully getting him into his own shifter soon.

That’s fantastic to hear, Shaun! Thanks for sharing with us! Happy Father’s Day!
Vince B
I love the pic of Damon and Graham Hill, reminds me of an older time when racing wasn’t about sponsorships and polished PR people. I’ll be racing with my son (11 years, sets weekly fast laps at every K1 he visits) this weekend.

For racing with dad does everyone need memberships or just dad?

Hi Kristin! Sorry for the delay – yes, whoever races will need their own membership.
